Airbnb Bans

California Cities That Have Banned Airbnb

This new economy is extending an unregulated free market into previously regulated areas of our lives. It is reshaping cities without regard for those things that have made them livable. Airbnb is exploiting slow moving city governments to challenge democratically created rules to reshape cities in their own interest. Cities, one by one are pushing back.  Here is a list of the bans in California to date (more are coming all the time).  Notice how many of these cities are on the coast.  Coastal cities in California are feeling the pressure from short term rentals as property owners shift from housing to the lucrative tourist market.
